D'ttache Transformable Shoe
Our client came to us with a patented unique fashion product that has useful functionality. It's a shoe with a hard base that transforms into a soft sole sandal. We are not fashion designers, but this product needed an engineered mechanical system. The challenge here is to snap the sandal portion into the base easily with one foot and also to remove the base easily with a tug. The system also must lock to prevent accidental release. We designed a platform base from a sample shoe supplied by the client. We then designed a sole in two configurations leveraging the sheet metal function of the CAD software. In one state the sole is formed and engaged in the base. In the other state, the sole is flattened by the software for molding purposes. The sole had to mate perfectly with a mechanical groove in the base after molding and snapping it into the base from the flat state. We produced 3 rapid prototypes with incremental improvements to each one progressively making the function better and better. We are currently continuing the refinement of the system as well as modeling some new styles. The business plan and website are currently under construction. Look for this product in local shoe stores in the future.
