Storm Warrior Project
This product is a patented system for protection of building openings in storm and high wind situations. The system uses synthetic corrugated panels that are certified by Miami Dade county for code requirements. The panels are each custom cut and fit for each opening of the building.
These panels then need to be held in place in a variety of different sized openings securely and reliably. Our engineers dissected a crude prototype and collaborated with our client to arrive at a unique clam shell outer case made of 30% glass filled nylon. We designed a ratcheting arm system with a with large rubber pads that can expand and contract in increments of 1/4" for rough positioning to the inside of the opening frame and then compress tightly via a toggle lock mechanism. The Nylon outer case material is extremely tough, but ribs and internal structure had to be carefully designed to absorb impact but not interfere with the housed mechanism function. We then used computer analysis to simulate the required impact from a 2 x 4 piece of wood striking at velocity dead center on the outer case. This test would meet the Miami Dade storm shutter code. Strength issues were quickly resolved and the system is now ready for South Florida storm season.
